The Ukrainian Special Operations Forces have released video footage taken in the first hours of the start of fighting in Russia's Kursk region.

The video shows fighters advancing through enemy trenches, overcoming fortified positions on enemy territory. This footage became the first official evidence of the Kursk operation, which began in August 2024 and was the first time during the war that the Ukrainian military conducted offensive operations on Russian territory.

The operation was reportedly aimed at weakening the enemy's combat capabilities and forcing it to transfer reserves from other parts of the front. As of late summer 2024, Ukrainian forces controlled up to a hundred settlements on the territory of the Kursk region.

However, since March 2025, the situation in this direction has become more tense. According to RBC-Ukraine's sources, Russian troops have stepped up attempts to cut the Suja-Sumy road in order to encircle Ukrainian units. Despite this, the AFU General Staff said that the reports about the allegedly formed ring around the Ukrainian military did not correspond to reality and were part of Russian propaganda.
