In March, Russian occupiers kidnapped the writer from his home in Kapitolovka village near Izyum.

Volodymyr Vakulenko was a children's writer, poet and winner of numerous literary prizes.

In September, after the city was liberated, a mass grave and a magazine containing the writer's surname were found there, Suspіlne reports.

This is evidenced by photographic evidence and the results of DNA forensic tests obtained by Suspilne journalists.

Vakulenko's parents searched for their son for over half a year. Later they learned that Volodymyr had been kidnapped by Russian occupants.

The writer's death has now been confirmed by DNA forensics.
