Nigeria has become the first country in the world to ban foreign actors from acting in commercials and voice-overs.
The Times writes about it.
Half of the commercials 10-20 years ago were filmed by foreigners, and all the voice-overs were with a British accent. We are about 200 million. Are you saying that you could not find local models for advertising? - Said the president of the Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria, Steve Babaeko.
Steve Babaeko believes that the new ban is in the national interest.
A renaissance has come in the country, and young people are experiencing a new sense of pride - therefore, the society reacted negatively to advertising with foreigners, - said Steve Babaeko.
