In Transcarpathia, law enforcers illegally transported men across the border - GBI

In Transcarpathia, the garlic workers of a criminal group that helped men of conscription age to go abroad have been reported on suspicion.

An illegal scheme of crossing the state border was exposed back in June 2023.

This was reported by the State Investigation Bureau (SIB).

Members of the criminal group were detained while trying to transport a resident of Transcarpathia to Hungary. They tried to hide him in the sleeping compartment of the truck, located behind the driver's seat, - stated in the message.

The organiser of the scheme was a former law enforcer, who attracted a current law enforcer and two civilians. Using connections in state structures, the attackers organised unimpeded border crossing at different checkpoints.

The evaders had to pay $7,000 for one person to cross the border.

A petition for a measure of restraint and suspension from duty is being prepared. The investigation continues, other cases of assistance in illegal border crossing are established, - added in the GBR.

The suspects face imprisonment for up to 7 years under part 2 of article 332 of the Criminal code of Ukraine - assistance in the illegal transfer of persons across the state border.
