Ministry of Social Policy says how many more orphans have become in Ukraine since the beginning of the war

The number of orphans is growing in Ukraine.

Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, more than 13,000 children have acquired the status of an orphan or a child deprived of parental care in our state.
She said this on the air of the national telethon the Minister of Social Policy of Ukraine Oksana Zholnovych.

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the status of an orphaned child or a child deprived of parental care, more than 13 thousand children have acquired it. These are children who have been orphaned in various ways or, for example, their parents are in captivity or in a Russian prison," Zholnovych said.

She pointed to a disappointing trend and noted that about 4,000 children in Ukraine are left without parental care every year.

Zholnovych added that such children usually end up in orphanages.

However, instead of staying in special institutions, there is an alternative - living with relatives (grandparents, aunts, etc.)," she said.

Currently, there are about 70 thousand children left without parents in the country.

We shall remind you that the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine adopted amendments to the legal framework that simplify the process of adoption and placement of orphans and children deprived of parental care to new families. According to the amendments, a family that is in the process of adoption will be able to take a child before a court issues a relevant decision.
