Merz, Macron, Starmer and Tusk arrive in Ukrainian capital
This is the first joint visit of the leaders of the four countries to Ukraine.
The leaders of France, the UK, Germany and Poland arrived in Kiev on the morning of 10 May. According to Suspilne, Emmanuel Macron, Friedrich Merz, Keir Starmer and Donald Tusk will take part in the meeting of the countries of the coalition of the willing.
The foreign guests were welcomed on the spot by the head of the Presidential Office Andriy Yermak and Deputy Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga.
Security measures were seriously strengthened at the railway station.
Foreign Minister Sibiga shared his expectations from the upcoming negotiations. According to him, "important decisions" are expected based on the results of the work with European partners.
Today will be a busy day. The meetings are extremely important. We welcome four European leaders, leaders of the "coalition of the resolute" in Ukraine. Therefore, we expect important decisions, we expect further cementing of European solidarity and support for Ukraine," the foreign minister said.
Macron announced the leaders' visit to Kiev in advance, writing on his page that the trip would take place "in the name of Ukraine and Europe".
The new German Chancellor Friedrich Merz also confirmed his intention to visit the Ukrainian capital. According to him, the main goal is to maximise the EU's contribution to the establishment of a lasting ceasefire after the next weekend and the creation of conditions for a future peace treaty with Russia.
We will remind, in Lviv on 9 May on the Day of Europe held a meeting of delegations of 35 states. The European delegation was led by EU high representative Kaja Kallas.
