Media report on the breakdown of negotiations between the Defense Ministry of Ukraine and Israel
Israel cancelled the conversation with Minister of Defense Reznikov hours before it took place.
This is reported by the Israeli newspaper Haaretz , citing sources in the Israeli and Ukrainian governments.
Israel turned down a request by Ukraine on Monday for a telephone conversation between Defense Minister Benny Gantz and his counterpart in Kyiv, Alexei Reznikov.
Ukrainian officials said Israel canceled arrangements for a phone call it initiated a few days ago. On Monday morning, Russia accused Israel of planning to supply weapons to Ukraine and warned that such a move would damage ties between Jerusalem and Moscow.
Coordination efforts between Jerusalem and Kyiv began a few weeks ago. Members of Gantz's inner circle said the talks were important to the defense minister and that he intended to talk to Reznikov in the coming days. Ukrainian officials expressed their hope that the planned conversation would be about the possibility of transferring weapons.
But at the last moment, the call fell through.
It is worth recalling that earlier the Israeli Minister for Diaspora Affairs, Nahman Shai, said that since Iran is transferring ballistic missiles to Russia, Israel should provide military assistance to Ukraine, as the United States and NATO countries do.
