Lukashenko does not want to see "unfriendly" journalists in Belarus
Lukashenka has signed amendments to the Law on Mass Media that expand the grounds for cancelling state registration of mass media.
Aliaksandr Lukashenka has signed a law banning mass media from "unfriendly" countries in Belarus. This is stated on the website of the press centre of the President of Belarus.
The law provides for the possibility of a ban on the activities of foreign media in the Republic of Belarus in case of unfriendly actions of those or other foreign countries against the Belarusian media," reads the statement.
The new document "extends the grounds for cancellation of state registration certificates of the media and restrictions on access to websites, online publications and news aggregators.
It is noted that media owners now have "requirements" for violation of which they will be stripped of their licenses.
A ban on the work of Lukashenko's disliked media will mean that its journalists will lose their accreditations in Belarus, while the office will be closed. It will also be forbidden to distribute the media's information products in the country.
