Kyivstar cyberattack: Russian GUR hackers claim responsibility
Russia's GRU hacking unit has confirmed its responsibility for the cyberattack on Kyivstar. The SBU continues to document Russian cyberattacks on civilian infrastructure.
Hackers from the Russian GRU group Solntsepek have claimed responsibility for the cyberattack on the Ukrainian mobile operator Kyivstar. This was reported by the Russian Federation hackers in their Telegram channel.
We, Solntsepek hackers, take full responsibility for the cyberattack on Kyivstar. We destroyed 10 thousand computers, more than 4 thousand servers, all cloud storage and backup systems," the statement reads.
It is emphasised that Russian hackers attacked Kyivstar because the company provides communications to the AFU, as well as state bodies and security agencies of Ukraine. Also cybercriminals expressed "special thanks to the unequal employees of Kyivstar".
The SBU has confirmed the involvement of Russian hackers in the attack on the telecom operator Kyivstar.
One of the Russian pseudo-hacking groups has already claimed responsibility for the attack. It is a hacking unit of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces (better known as GRU), which thus publicly legalises the results of its criminal activity," the special service said.
The SBU continues to document the Russian Federation's cyberattack on Ukraine's civilian infrastructure as another war crime. Cyber specialists from the SBU, Kyivstar and other government agencies continue to work on restoring the network.
According to preliminary estimates, on 13 December it is planned to restore fixed Internet for households, as well as to start launching mobile communications and Internet.
