China may provide Russia with lethal military aid - Blinken

China has long claimed to be "neutral", but the US has rebuked Beijing for supporting Moscow before.

China is discussing the possibility of providing Russia with lethal military assistance to support Russian aggression in Ukraine, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said in an interview with the US broadcaster NBC.

At the same time, he noted that China is already a de facto ally of Russia, as it has repeatedly supported it politically and economically, as well as provided non-lethal weapons.

And we are extremely concerned that China is considering providing lethal support to Russia in its aggression against Ukraine," he said.

Blinken said this would have serious consequences, including straining relations between Washington and Beijing.

President Biden also spoke about this during his several meetings with Xi Jinping," Blinken stressed.

He stressed that China is being hypocritical, as it speaks publicly of peace but in fact has sided with the aggressor.

There is also information that will soon be made public that China is seriously thinking of supplying lethal assistance to Russia," added the US Secretary of State.

Blinken did not specify the weapons in question.
