The death toll from the Kiev strike has risen: a child is among the victims.

The death toll from the massive Russian attack on the Ukrainian capital on the night of 31 July has risen to 11 people. The Kiev city military administration (KCMA) said that one child was among the victims.

As of 16:45, as a result of the Russian combined attack on Kiev from 30 to 31 July 2025, 11 people were killed, including one child, - the press service of the KGVA said in a statement.

In addition to the dead, at least 135 people received medical care. Many of them were hospitalised with shrapnel wounds, injuries sustained during the collapse of structures, or with signs of psycho-emotional shock.

Extent of destruction: houses, schools and hospitals destroyed

The strike caused serious damage to several districts of the capital - Svyatoshinsky, Solomensky, Goloseevsky and Shevchenko districts. Svyatoshinsky district was particularly affected, where the missile hit a multi-storey residential building, completely destroying one of the entrances. Search and rescue operations continue at the scene of the tragedy - rescuers are removing the rubble, under which people may remain.

According to the KGVA, more than a hundred objects have been damaged, including:

  • residential buildings;

  • schools;

  • kindergartens;

  • hospitals;

  • higher education institutions.

Drone and missile attack

According to preliminary information, the attack used combined tactics: more than 300 kamikaze drones and at least eight missiles were fired at Kiev. Despite the work of air defence forces, some of the aerial targets broke through and caused damage.

All emergency services are involved at the scene. Rescuers, medics, psychologists and public utilities continue to remove rubble, evacuate victims and provide temporary housing for those whose flats were destroyed.

The Russian attack on 31 July was one of the most devastating for the Ukrainian capital in recent times. The scale of destruction and the number of casualties show that residential neighbourhoods and civilian infrastructure were again targeted.
