In Munich, opponents of arms supplies to Ukraine tried to disrupt German Chancellor Olaf Scholz's speech at an SPD election event.

Olaf Scholz made an emotional appeal to "supporters of peace". DW reports that.

Telling Ukrainians that they should just let their country be invaded has nothing to do with pacifism. Those who came to the square as "doves of peace" are in fact "fallen angels from hell who defend the warmonger Vladimir Putin," Scholz said.

Another section of those gathered at the speech reportedly supported the chancellor with applause.

Radical and right-wing populist movements, including the Alternative for Germany party, called on their supporters to disrupt the event.

The police set up fences in the square and more than 200 police officers provided law and order protection.
