How Ukrainian refugees live in Portugal
Ukrainians who have taken refuge in Portugal complain about the difficulties in finding housing and the harsh climate.
RBC-Ukraine writes about this.
Since the beginning of the full-scale war, more than 50 thousand of our fellow citizens have found temporary shelter in Portugal.
Housing
Most Ukrainians settled in the capital - Lisbon.
In Lisbon, renting an apartment costs from 1000 euros. In other big cities - 500-600 euros. In villages, you need to pay an average of 300 euros for housing.
Help
Payments for non-working adults in Portugal are small - 189 euros per month. People without means of subsistence can receive subsidies for rent. The subsidy program for Ukrainians lasts up to 1.5 years.
Schools
There are Ukrainian weekend schools in big cities. They work with the Ministry of Education of Ukraine, and at the end of the class they issue a state diploma. In Lisbon, these are: "Light", "Motherland", "Divosvit".
Weather
Refugees complain of heavy fog and humidity. It is especially difficult on the first line near the ocean. In winter it is cold and damp - there is no heating in the houses.
