Israel and Hamas agree on a temporary truce and partial release of prisoners

Israel and Hamas have agreed on a four-day ceasefire in Gaza. This should facilitate the release of hostages held by the Palestinians and prisoners by Israel.

Fifty hostages will be released in stages in exchange for the release of what Hamas says are 150 Palestinian prisoners. Both sides will release women and children first," the report said.

It is noted that Qatar and Egypt played a key role in the mediation between Israel and Hamas .

Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani expressed hope that the agreement would eventually lead to a permanent ceasefire and "serious negotiations" to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
