Instead of scrapping a car, Londoners will be able to hand it over to Ukraine
Londoners will be able to give their car that does not meet environmental requirements to Ukraine.
The London mayor's office has suggested that residents of the city donate their cars to Ukraine instead of scrapping them. This is reported by the office of London Mayor Sadiq Khan.
From next Friday (March 15), applicants for the ULEZ scrappage programme funded by London Mayor Sadiq Khan will have the opportunity to receive a scrappage grant and donate their non-ULEZ compliant vehicle to support humanitarian and medical needs in Ukraine," the report says.
The London Ambulance Service (LAS) plans to join the effort by donating 50 decommissioned ambulances to Ukraine.
As the devastating effects of Russia's illegal invasion of Ukraine continue, the country's infrastructure has been severely damaged. 'I have worked quickly to amend our scrappage scheme so that from next week non-compliant vehicles can be donated to Ukraine, helping to meet medical and humanitarian needs and removing old, polluting vehicles from London's roads,' London Mayor Sadiq Khan said.
Prior to that, Transport Minister Mark Harper said that the government saw no legal obstacles to allowing the transfer to Ukraine of cars to be scrapped due to failure to meet environmental standards.
The charity organisation British-Ukrainian Aid will act as an intermediary for the transfer of British cars to Ukraine.
