In Kyiv, 95 streets associated with Russia and the USSR were renamed at once
Today Kyiv City Council has renamed 95 streets, alleys and squares, the names of which are associated with Russia and the communist past.
And now, for example, the street of the Heroes of the Azov Regiment has appeared. So the capital continues the program of de-communization and de-russification. Before the renaming, an opinion poll was conducted among the capital's residents.
The mayor of Kyiv, Vitaliy Klitschko, announced this.
The new names, initiated and supported by the public during the rating voting, should perpetuate the memory of the outstanding historical events of Ukraine, as well as famous figures and heroes who glorified Ukraine and fought for the independence of our state. Including in the modern Russian-Ukrainian war, - said Vitali Klitschko.
The process of renaming the capital has not yet been completed. At the next plenary meeting, Kyiv City Council will continue to work on these issues to complete the process of de-Russification.
