Hungary's president has resigned
Hungarian President Katalin Novak has resigned following the convict pardon scandal.
Katalin Novak announced this in a televised speech on Saturday 10 February, Bloomberg reported.
As a Hungarian, I expect that the President will not make mistakes, or if they do, they must face those to whom they are accountable, take responsibility, - said Novak.
It is noted that the Hungarian president announced her resignation amid the scandal of pardoning convicts.
In 2023, since the eve of Pope Francis' visit to Hungary, the president made 22 decisions on pardons. In early February 2024, it was revealed that among those pardoned was the deputy director of an orphanage that forced children to recant testimony against a man who sexually abused them.
The news of the pardon sparked outrage among the public, with some demanding Novak's resignation.
