How many Ukrainian teenagers think about emigration from Ukraine - survey data
Every fourth teenager in Ukraine is considering emigration, but the priority is development opportunities rather than security.
According to the research "Future Index: professional expectations and development of teenagers in Ukraine" initiated by the Elena Zelenska Foundation, every fourth Ukrainian teenager considers moving abroad in the future. At the same time, the main motives for such a decision are development prospects and access to better opportunities, rather than issues of personal safety.
The study showed that 82% of teenagers are optimistic about their future and 60% are optimistic about the future of Ukraine. However, the idea of emigration is still relevant for a significant part of young people. The main reasons why teenagers think about moving are better opportunities abroad (80%), the desire to see the world (64%), access to quality education (39%) and security reasons (38%).
At the same time, the desire to emigrate is more common among teenagers from cities, those who do not believe in the prospects of Ukraine, whose parents have a high level of education, who have already decided on a profession and assess their knowledge of English as high.
Interestingly, among parents the desire to see their children's future in Ukraine prevails - 57% would like their children to live and work in their home country.
The survey was conducted by KSE Institute together with the organisation "Man in Need". More than 10 thousand people took part in the survey - more than 5 thousand teenagers aged 13 to 16 and their parents or guardians.
