German authorities cut military support to Ukraine

We will support Ukraine for as long as it needs this support: economically, humanitarianly, financially and through the supply of weapons, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said just on Monday.

But in reality, it seems like just empty promises. The opposition considers such behavior of the German authorities shameful, writes Die Welt.

As early as June 21, the federal government published a list of the delivered weapons, from which it follows that the supply has been reduced. Since then, it has been updated three times and supplemented with new products, which Welt followed. Over the past three weeks, Ukraine has received two deliveries. In the first week of July, Kyiv received 42,000 dry rations from Germany. The second delivery included 102 unarmored vehicles.

The opposition has strongly criticized the lack of further arms shipments.

The demonstrative reluctance of the federal government to supply arms is damaging Germany's reputation. The coalition turns a blind eye to the fact that democracy and freedom are now being defended in the east and south of Ukraine, said Torsten Frei, parliamentary secretary of the CDU faction in the Bundestag.

However, Scholz is criticized not only in the opposition, but also in the coalition, in particular, in the Free Democratic Party.

While Germany's economic, humanitarian and financial support is exemplary, the chancellor cannot convincingly justify his reluctance to supply heavy weapons, said Alexander Müller, WDP spokesman for defense policy.

The last time Germany made significant arms deliveries to Ukraine was four weeks ago. On June 21, seven self-propelled howitzers, promised to Kyiv in early May, arrived in Ukraine. They arrived on June 28, according to a federal government list, along with new ammunition, another 5,000 helmets, anti-drone equipment and vehicle spare parts.
