For the first time in history: a woman started working as a driver in Kharkiv underground system
Ukraine is experiencing a shortage of labourers, and women are offered to learn traditionally "male" professions.
A woman has started working as a train driver in Kharkiv metro - for the first time in the history of the underground. The story of this train driver was told by Suspilne. Kharkiv.
Anastasia Mazurkova is 25 years old. She started to work as a typist after completing her studies at the National Technical University "Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute".
She said that her appearance was a surprise for the team and many men found her choice unusual. At the same time, she emphasised that the team accepted her with respect.
According to Anastasia, this job is not an easy one and requires a lot of concentration and attention.
To become a metro driver, you have to pass several exams. According to Anastasia, first you have to apply to the metro technical school, master the theory, pass an exam in each subject, and then take an exam for the right to drive an electric train.
The most difficult thing was to combine theory and practice. There is a lot of information that you study, try to understand, and then all this information, which you memorised and passed the exam, you have to put into practice," explained the typist.
It should be noted that women are also being prepared to work in the Kiev underground, and at the end of the year a typist may enter the line for the first time.
We shall remind you that the study of the Ukrainian labour market, conducted by the European Business Association (EBA), says that 74% of employers are experiencing a shortage of staff, and two-thirds said that their companies will have vacancies in 2024.
