Five Ukrainians detained in Poland for helping illegal immigrants
During three days, 22-24 March, Polish border guards detained 10 people involved in illegal crossing of the Belarusian-Polish border. Five Ukrainians were among the detainees.
This was reported by the Polish Border Guard Service.
Thus, on Friday 22 March, a citizen of Ukraine was detained who tried to pick up a group of illegal immigrants in the vicinity of Hajnówka.
The next day, 23 March, detained four people - a Ukrainian, a Georgian and two Turkish citizens. They were going to transport people who had illegally crossed the Polish-Belarusian border through Poland to Germany.
On Sunday, 24 March, five couriers were detained - they were going to transport illegals through Poland to Western Europe in several cars. Among the detained offenders are three citizens of Ukraine, citizens of Kyrgyzstan and Moldova.
Thedetained couriers face a sentence of up to 8 years for aiding and abetting the illegal crossing of the border of the Republic of Poland. With regard to all foreigners detained for aiding and abetting and still legally residing in Poland, administrative proceedings will be initiated in parallel in order to issue a judgement obliging them to return to their country of origin," it said.
In addition, the detainees will be banned from entering Schengen countries for 5 to 10 years.
