Olympic champion in sabre fencing Olga Kharlan met with cadets of the National Academy of SBU, where she has been working for a long time.
The rector of the SBU National Academy, Andriy Chernyak, has presented the highest award of the institution, the Badge of Honour, to the athlete. This was reported by the SBU press centre.
Olga Kharlan thanked all Ukrainian defenders, and in particular, the staff of the SBU and the National Academy of SBU, who inspire her to fight in the sports arena.
We cannot shake hands with our enemy. And we must show the whole world that the war continues, and these "neutral" athletes should not be on the international arena. And we will do everything we can to keep them out of the Olympics or any world competition. I am proud to be an employee of the Security Service of Ukraine, in particular the National Academy of the SBU. And I am proud that the Russians know that I work in the SBU. Let them be afraid! - said the champion.
Olga Kharlan demonstrated the main Ukrainian message on the world sports arena - no handshakes with the Russians, only weapons! And only victory! This is a worthy and strong act of the representative of the SBU! For which all Ukraine is grateful to you, Mrs Olga! - andriy Cherniak noted.
Olga Kharlan was also congratulated on her courageous deed at the competition by servicemen of the 114th separate brigade of territorial defence of Kyiv region.
We shall remind you that on 27 July Olga Kharlan defeated a fencer from the Russian Federation at the World Fencing Championship. Olga refused to shake her opponent's hand after the fight, putting her sabre forward.
