Biden has had harsh words for Donald Trump

Biden and Trump periodically criticise each other. The politicians belong to different parties - Democratic and Republican.

Former US President Joe Biden has harshly criticised Donald Trump, saying that he has "destroyed democracy". He said this at the Democratic Party's gala dinner, writes CNN.

Trump has destroyed not only the House of the People, but the Constitution, the rule of law, our democracy itself," Biden stressed, commenting on the demolition of the East Wing of the White House, where Trump planned to build a ballroom.

The former president did not hold back and jokingly commented on Trump's statements about the "golden age" USA: "The only gold is what he hangs on a stone shelf".

Biden also accused Trump of putting the interests of wealthy allies ahead of the interests of the American people, "You work for us, Mr President, not just billionaires and millionaires. I'm angry."

The former president speaking about his prostate cancer diagnosis, stressing the importance of affordable healthcare, "Now Trump and his Republican friends are cutting funding for healthcare and making it more expensive for everyone."

Biden also noted the Democrats' recent election victories, saying, "The Democratic Party is back, and Americans are sending a message to Trump and his circle."

And lastly, he urged everyone to unite to protect democracy, saying, "No one, not even the president, can destroy our democracy if we fight for it together."

Trump's approval rating, according to polls, has been gradually declining since the start of his second term. A survey released by CNN on 3 November showed the Republican's approval rating at 37%, a record low for Trump's second term. The disapproval rating, on the other hand, according to the channel, is 63 per cent
