Best shot of the 2024 Olympics
Brazilian surfer Gabriel Medina literally froze in mid-air after being tossed by a huge wave.
The Pacific island of Tahiti, 15,000 kilometres from Paris, is hosting the Olympic surfing competition. AFP photographer Jerome Brouillet took a unique photo there. According to the British edition of the Guardian, it will become the best photo of all Olympic Games-2024.
On Monday, 29 July, Brazilian surfer Gabriel Medina gave spectators one of the most memorable images of the 2024 Games, celebrating his Olympic record of 9.9 in the air.
The photo looks like it could have been photoshopped. But it's real. Agence France-Presse photographer Jérôme Brouillet took the photo while aboard a boat nearby, capturing the surreal image with such precision that at first some suspected photoshop or artificial intelligence.
Gabriel Medina received a 9.90 out of a possible 10 points from the judges for his performance - the highest score in Olympic surfing history.
The final surfing competition was scheduled to take place on the night of 31 July, but was postponed due to bad weather. The time of the final rounds will be announced later.
