"Because of the drones, it's almost impossible to get out of positions, the infantrymen are holding the front with their lives" - a military account
Danilo is from Dnipro, he is a UAV operator in the 128th separate heavy mechanised brigade "Wild Field".
He has been at the front since the first days of the full-scale invasion. He fought in the infantry in Kharkiv, Luhansk and Donetsk regions. A year ago, he transferred to a drone operator unit and now operates a reconnaissance drone in the Zaporizhzhya area.
Danilo told "Suspilny" about his combat tours, transfer from infantry to drone operators, as well as about his amulet, which saved his life more than once.
After the beginning of the full-scale invasion on February 26, I found myself in the ranks of the 128th Brigade, which was then a territorial defence unit.
Then there was a feeling of fear and confusion, and the realisation that I had to go. I knew that if I and other volunteers did not go, there would be no Ukraine as a state. Russia will do whatever it wants to us. I did not want that. Why do we need Russia here? - says Danilo.
Later, according to him, the company in which he served was disbanded, and he got to the Kupyansk direction.
Almost immediately there was an exit to "zero", on a combat mission. Then the Russian pilot missed a drop from the drone - a grenade exploded near my head. He missed by about forty centimetres... Then we were transferred to the village of Novoselovskoye, where we stayed for seven months. And there we had an interesting way out: we had to go to the aid of the assault company of the 92nd Brigade. In the end we actually replaced it, and in the morning we found ourselves surrounded - a tank battle started," said the military man.
According to him, the basement where their group was located was shelled for almost six days.
Back then, in 2023, it was still possible to get out of there. Now it's very difficult because of FPV drones. Because of them, guys who are at ground zero in the infantry sit there for a month or even two. They hold the front with their lives," the fighter noted.
A year ago, according to Danil, he was transferred from the infantry to the reserve company because of service restrictions. Then the question arose as to where to continue his service. He decided that he should continue to fight and do good, so he contacted the commander of the company of unmanned systems.
Now everything hangs on the infantry, but if the intelligence does not see, then, accordingly, the drone will not target, artillery will not work. The more "eyes" in the sky, the less chance the enemy has to pass. And they (Russian troops - ed.) understand this. We look for Russian soldiers as much as possible and we destroy them quite successfully... I try to be as effective as possible. Unfortunately, they are inventing something - they are wearing anti-drone cloaks. They hide from us, and we learn to detect them, - said the drone operator.
Danilo also told about his amulet, which, in his opinion, has saved his life more than once.
I have a string. Somehow friends gave it to me. I don't know how, but it works. One example: I had to go to the exit, already put on the equipment and ... lost consciousness. I woke up in the hospital. At that moment, all the guys who were under my command died," he added.
The soldier has a family and a young son whom he misses very much. He says he is worried about not seeing the child grow up, wants to go home to his family and make peace plans.
