Biden reacts to China's 'peace plan'

China was warned back in the summer of 2022 about the economic consequences of supporting Russia.

the "peace plan" which China presented as a guide for ending the war in Ukraine is beneficial only to Russia, US President Joe Biden has said, ABC News has reported.

I have not seen anything in the plan that would indicate that the implementation of the Chinese plan would be beneficial to anyone other than Russia, Biden said.

The day before, China published its version of a "peace plan" to resolve the war in Ukraine.

In the document, China called for:

  • A ceasefire and cessation of hostilities;
  • All sides to ensure food exports as part of a grain corridor;
  • All parties to resist turning the world economy into a weapon;
  • Stop imposing unilateral sanctions;
  • Avoid a further escalation of the crisis and its spinning out of control;
  • Towards an early resumption of dialogue between Russia and Ukraine;
  • To respect the legitimate security interests of all countries;
  • The international community to engage in the reconstruction of the conflict zone;
  • To oppose the use or threat of use of nuclear weapons;
  • To resolve the humanitarian crisis and prevent it from escalating.

In addition to criticising the so-called "peace plan", Biden categorically rejected the idea of peace talks by China in the war, calling it irrational.

The idea that China will negotiate on the outcome of a war that is absolutely unjust for Ukraine is simply irrational," the White House head said.

The White House head also said that the USA would "react" if China started sending Russia lethal weapons in the war against Ukraine.

I had a very frank conversation with Xi Jinping on this issue. And I remarked to him: This is not a threat, this is just a statement, a statement of what I think is real. You saw what happened when the rest of the world, particularly Europe, sensed Putin's brutality in Ukraine," the politician said.

At the same time, he said, the United States has yet to see China hand over lethal aid to Russia.
