Attackers tried to smuggle equipment for MiG-29 fighters out of Ukraine

The organiser of the illegal traffic and two of his accomplices who tried to illegally sell a batch of aircraft engine spare parts worth almost 2.5m hryvnyas to Asia have been detained. According to the SBU, these spare parts were stolen from the industrial giant Motor Sich.

The attackers were going to take the components abroad, hiding them from customs control in order to transfer the products to customers.

In addition, in this way, the attackers wanted to take out of Ukraine radar unit for fighter jets MiG-29, which is used for the recognition of aircraft in the mode "own-alien" air defence system, - added in the SBU.

Also in Odessa region "on hot" detained a malefactor who was going to export aircraft products to one of the countries of East Asia through Transnistria. To do this, he hid components in the technological cavities of his own car.

The investigation revealed that the illegal "scheme" was organised by a businessman from Kharkov. He was looking for foreign customers by placing advertisements about aircraft components on specialised websites.

The suspects' residences were searched and many units for Ukrainian-made aircraft were seized, which were ready to be sent abroad.

Three detainees were informed of suspicion of violating the procedure for international transfers of goods subject to state export control (part 1, article 333 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

Investigations are continuing to bring to justice other participants in criminal activities, including those involved in the theft of aircraft products from Ukrainian factories.
