Attack on the Kursk region. What is known so far

newsbaku

There is very little objective information about the invasion of the Kursk region. The Ukrainian armed forces have not yet commented on the events.

The editorial board has gathered information from various sources to give us a rough idea of what is happening there.

As of 7 August, it is already known that the ZSU has managed to advance 15 kilometres into Russian territory in the Kursk region and has taken control of 11 settlements.

The fighting is taking place here.

The invasion began in the morning of 6 August. At first, there was information about only one Ukrainian DRG that entered Russian territory.

The news was not paid much attention to, as this is the third such event. Earlier, Ukrainian DRGs as part of volunteer formations of Russians fighting against the Russian Federation entered the territory of Belgorod and Bryansk regions. After brief firing contacts, they returned to Ukraine.

In the second half of August 6, Russian war correspondents began to claim that these were not small units of DRGs, but the Ukrainian army with heavy armoured vehicles, air defence and hospitals. Thus, the conclusion was made about the invasion of the army grouping of ZSU.

The network was flooded with videos from local residents about the scale of the fighting, a large amount of destruction can be seen. This suggests quite serious fighting, which the DRG is incapable of due to the lack of heavy weapons. In addition, there is footage of broken Bradleys, which also indicates the serious intentions of the ZSU, which diverted these BMPs from defence in Donbass to invade the Kursk region.

Russian combat aviation, which is unlikely to have been brought in for the sake of a DRG, is noted above the site of the fighting.

There is confirmed information about the shooting down of a Russian attack helicopter (K-52) and unconfirmed information about the shooting down of an MI-8. A video of the capture of several Russian conscripts serving in the Kursk region has also been published online.

It is not yet possible to fully understand the scale of the invasion.

In Suja, a town that Russian sources say is already under AFU control, there is a gas metering station and an entry point for Russian gas into the Ukrainian GTS. In addition, the Kursk nuclear power plant is 50 kilometres from the fighting.

At the same time, Russian troops have managed to advance close to Toretsk in Donetsk Region. If the enemy does take Toretsk, the Russians will be able to attack Konstantinovka, which is the key logistics hub of the AFU in Donbass.

This is according to the American edition of the New York Times.
