A Russian agent from Zhirinovsky's party received life imprisonment

A Russian agent who was detained in May 2023 has beenconvicted. The attacker was caught while photographing the Ukroboronprom enterprise in Cherkasy region.

It was established that photo and video images of the plant and geolocation of its facilities were required by the occupants to prepare a targeted strike on the Ukrainian enterprise," the SBU said.

The enemy agent turned out to be a resident of Kherson region, who defected to the aggressor's side after the occupation of the region. The attacker voluntarily joined the "liberal-democratic party of Russia", which was formerly headed by Vladimir Zhirinovsky and set up its "cell" in Kherson. In the party, the collaborator urged local residents to support the occupiers, and also went round enemy checkpoints offering his help.

Thus, he came to the attention of the military intelligence of the Russian Federation, which subsequently recruited him and set him the task of travelling to Cherkasy region to collect intelligence. To disguise criminal activity, the attacker went to the central region of Ukraine as an immigrant," the report said.

In Cherkassy region he explored the terrain and searched for key transport interchanges, coordinates of administrative buildings and enterprises of the defence-industrial complex of Ukraine.

The collaborator communicated with the enemy using anonymous chat in messenger. The phone he used to communicate with the representative of the Russian GRU was seized.

Based on the collected evidence, the court found the man guilty under part 2 of article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - high treason committed under martial law. He was given the maximum preventive measure - life imprisonment.
