Three employees of the State Emergency Service died during demining in the Kherson region

Ukraine remains one of the most mined countries in the world.



On Saturday, December 24, three employees of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine died on a mine during mine clearance in the Kherson region, according to the Main Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Zhytomyr region.

They died on the spot:

  • warrant Officer of the civil protection service Sergei Kurenny, driver-sapper of the pyrotechnic works group;
  • dmytro Krasnoshchekov, junior sergeant of the civil protection service,
  • a driver of the motor transport unit.

Later, Sergeant Aleksei Sych, a paramedic-rescuer and civil defence sergeant, died from his injuries on the way to hospital.

All had served in the emergency rescue squad of the State Emergency Situations Service of Ukraine in the Zhytomyr region and had carried out mine clearance tasks in areas of the Kherson region liberated from the enemy.

The message says: "We deeply sympathize with the families, relatives and friends of our combat friends... Daughters of Sergei and Dmitry were left without parents because of a mine. The whole staff of the Rescue Service bows its head in sorrow to the Heroes. They will always remain in our memory as patriots of their country" and real professionals in their work. Rest in peace, our Heroes! We will not forgive the enemy for a single lost soul!"

Funeral services and burial of the deceased will be held tentatively on 27 December in Zhytomyr, about which we will be informed additionally.
