Macron accuses Russia of spreading disinformation against France
Word and deed

Macron believes there is a "predatory project" to spread disinformation to African countries against France.

This was reported by The Guardian. French President Emanuel Macron said

A number of states that want to spread their influence in Africa are doing so to harm France, to harm its language, to sow doubt, but above all to pursue certain interests.

On the sidelines of a Francophone conference in Tunis, he shared that there is a "predatory project" to spread disinformation to African countries, which is "a political project financed by Russia and sometimes other states".

Earlier this month Macron officially announced the withdrawal of French troops from Mali, ending an eight-year counter-terrorism mission in the West African country.

France withdrew its troops after Mali's military came to power in a coup in 2020 amid a breakdown in relations. The military leaders subsequently invited the Kremlin-linked Russian Wagner group to help fight Islamist militants and severed ties with France.
