They planned to work as security guards and technicians on oil rigs, to protect them from pirates, but ended up in a war. All three were recruited through the private military company Evro Polis (Krasnodar, Russia) under labor contracts, the report says.

When the Russians were not where they had planned, they were warned that they would be shot if they tried to escape.

In fact, they became "cannon fodder" in the battles with the Armed Forces of Ukraine near the settlements of Boguslavskoye, Kamyshevakha and Viktorovka in the Luhansk region. They were abandoned by the commander, and then covered by their own artillery. Now the prisoners are cooperating with the SBU investigators, the department said.
