AI services have similar pricing, but their tools and integrations differ noticeably

We compared four individual AI subscriptions in roughly the same price bracket. Rather than an overall ranking, we’ve outlined scenarios to show who each service is best suited to and what limitations are important to bear in mind.

Paid AI assistants cost roughly the same, but it isn’t particularly useful to choose them solely on the basis of ‘which neural network is smarter’. One service is more tightly integrated with office applications, another offers plenty of cloud storage, a third focuses on programming and connecting external tools, whilst a fourth combines voice, images, files and research functions in a single application.

We compared four individual subscriptions in roughly the same price bracket: ChatGPT Plus, Claude Pro, Google AI Pro and Microsoft 365 Premium. Prices and terms were checked on 13 September 2026 via the companies’ official websites. This is not a ranking of the quality of responses: models, limits and results for specific tasks change too rapidly, so the order below is based on scenarios rather than ‘best to worst’.

Details

How we compared them. The list includes consumer services with free access and individual subscriptions costing around $20 a month. APIs, corporate pricing plans, the most expensive plans for professional users and limited-time promotions were not taken into account. For each service, we looked at the price, research features, file and content handling, integrations and notable limitations.

Important information about prices. The basic prices listed below are taken from official US or global websites. The final amount in Ukraine and other countries may vary due to currency exchange rates, VAT, payment method or app store.

ChatGPTPlus$20/monthVersatile functionality: text, voice, images, files, research
ClaudePro$20/month or around $17/month when paid annuallyTexts, code, projects, research and integration with work tools

ChatGPT Plus — if you need a versatile set of tools in a single service

Who it’s for. Those who use AI for various tasks throughout the day: writing and editing text, analysing files, working with images, using voice commands and occasionally conducting in-depth research.

Price. OpenAI quotes a price of $20 per month for ChatGPT Plus. The API is not included in the subscription and is charged separately.

What’s included. According to OpenAI’s current help page, Plus offers higher limits and broader access to models and tools than the free plan. Features listed include advanced reasoning, voice conversations, image generation, file uploads and analysis, and Deep Research where available.

Limitations. Plus does not mean unlimited access to everything: OpenAI explicitly warns that message limits and model availability may vary depending on load and the stage of feature roll-out.

Practical conclusion. This option makes sense if what matters most is a single, universal interface for very different types of work, rather than being deeply tied to a specific office suite.

Claude Pro — if projects, programming and integration with work tools are important

Who it’s for. Users who frequently work with long texts, code, research tasks and recurring work projects.

Price. Claude Pro costs $20 per month in the US. Anthropic also offers an annual payment option: the official page states an effective price of $17 per month when paying $200 annually in advance. Regional pricing and taxes may vary.

What’s included. The Pro plan increases the limits compared to the free version of Claude and includes Claude Code, an unlimited number of Projects and Research tasks, advanced reasoning, more models, Google Workspace integration and support for external tools via remote MCP servers.

Limitations. Usage remains limited. For significantly higher volumes, Anthropic offers Max plans starting at $100 per month, so Pro should be viewed as a standard, but not a maximum, tier.

Practical conclusion. Claude Pro makes particular sense if you need AI not just as a chatbot, but as a working environment centred around projects, code, documents and connected services.

Google AI Pro — if your work is already centred around Gmail, Docs and other Google services

Who it’s for. Those who use their Google account, Gmail, Docs, Drive and other Google services on a daily basis and want to access AI features directly within this ecosystem.

Price. The official Google One page lists Google AI Pro at $19.99 per month.

What’s included. The subscription provides limits in the Gemini app that are approximately four times higher than the standard limits, as well as access to the Pro model and Deep Research. Google also integrates Gemini into Gmail, Docs, Vids and other apps, offers extended access to Gemini Notebook, and provides 5 TB of total cloud storage across Drive, Gmail and Photos.

Limitations. Google warns that Gemini’s limits depend on computational load, the complexity of queries and the features used, and are subject to change. Some of the additional features are not available in all countries.

Practical takeaway. It makes more sense to view Google AI Pro not as a standalone chatbot, but as a package: Gemini plus integration with Google services and substantial cloud storage.

Microsoft 365 Premium — if your main work is done in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook

Who it’s for. Microsoft 365 users who prioritise AI built directly into the Office applications over a standalone chatbot.

Price. The current Microsoft 365 Premium costs $19.99 per month or $199.99 per year on the US Microsoft website.

What’s included. The subscription includes Copilot and the desktop versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneNote, increased AI limits, research and analysis features, image generation and up to 6 TB of OneDrive cloud storage for a family subscription — 1 TB per person.

Restrictions. The AI capabilities of the Premium subscription are intended solely for the subscription holder and are not shared amongst all family members, even though cloud storage and applications can be shared. Microsoft also states that limits apply and the feature set varies by platform.

Practical conclusion. The Premium plan makes sense primarily when value is derived not only from Copilot’s responses but also from the full Microsoft 365 suite. Purchasing it solely for the chat feature is less obvious.

Why this matters

If you need a versatile AI that isn’t tied to an office ecosystem, it makes sense to start with ChatGPT Plus: it combines voice, images, file analysis and research tools in a single product.

If your main use cases involve text, code and long-term work projects, it’s worth taking a separate look at Claude Pro because of its Projects, Claude Code, Research features and integrations via Google Workspace and MCP.

If your entire workflow is already built around Google, Google AI Pro integrates Gemini with Gmail, Docs and other applications, whilst also providing 5 TB of cloud storage.

If your documents are hosted in Microsoft 365, Microsoft 365 Premium offers Copilot directly within Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, and the price includes not only AI but also Office applications and OneDrive.

There is no clear-cut winner here. We have deliberately not awarded marks for ‘intelligence’, speed or accuracy: such a ranking quickly becomes outdated and requires a separate, reproducible test using the same set of tasks. Before paying, it’s worth checking the current limits and price specifically for your account and country, and then choosing the service based on your actual day-to-day tasks.
